TVB Eye in the Sky Episode Thoughts (Episode 5)

Finally it's confirmed that Nik is indeed the biological twin brother of Sitou. I am still enjoying this series so far.

I didn't remember much from this episode so I will give a rather short recap:

First we have Law Lan (who portrays the Hor Yee Gu: the mid-wife for baby Nik and baby Situ). Hor Yee Gu confessed that she swapped Nik with a dead baby and sold Nik to a couple whose baby had died. Hor Yee Gu however says she is getting karma where her family do not care about her and she has to depend on collecting boxes for a living.

Pause. I liked this scene. You could tell in here Ruco sounded angry (when he should) after knowing he was sold to someone for money. It was realistic how Nik did not have any sympathy for Hor Yee Gu even though she lives a rough life now because she cannot repay and will never be able to repay her one selfish mistake.

Continue. Now it's confirmed that Sitou's twin brother is still alive, in which Sitou and Jenny are desperate to look for him.

Pause. How irony that they are trying so hard to find him when Nik is in fact the only and he was with them the whole time. This reminds me of a quote, "远在“天”边,近在“眼"前”, where it essentially means whilst it seems like something is as far away as the sky, the thing is really in front of your eye, thus perfectly fitting the title Eye in the Sky. However with Sitou's character as someone who thinks outside the box, smart, clever, observant and analytical, wouldn't he somehow can feel Nik is his twin brother or strange in his behaviour? Never mind.

Continue. Jenny, Sitou and Nik have lunch in those HK cafes and they watch the clip of the fake Sitou Sir walking away with a guy. That was of course Nik saving Terry who had an affair with a gangster's girlfriend. They come to the realisation that the fake Sitou is indeed a person with no malicious intent but just a person trying to save his buddy. This means that if only they find the buddy, Terry, then they will be able to locate Sitou's real twin brother.

Pause. I am beginning to get a bit tried with the long adventure to find the real twin brother when we already know who he is and why he saved Terry. I just hope that the story doesn't drag too long just to find Nik. To be serious, this series is only twenty episodes long and five episodes already gone without Sitou knowing yet. He better find out soon otherwise it would be silly for half of the series to focus on finding Nik's identity when viewers are omniscient of what happened.

Continue. Moving on, Nik was trying to pay for the bill and he noticed that his wallet was missing. Do they always make Nik pay? Jenny used her photographic memory to trace down the wallet and she said Nik left in on the counter of the other HK cafe. Sitou and Nik becomes suspicious as to how she can be so certain and Jenny replied, "My memory is like a video recorder. All I need to do is find my memory like searching for a file in a computer system and then I can remember all the small details. It's just like rewinding and playing videos."

Taking advantage of Jenny's miraculous memory skills, Sitou asks Jenny to recap in detail of her encounter with the fake Sitou. Jenny memorises the dialogue of the phone call Sitou was listening to and they hear in the background, "Please don't kill undie dragon" (that was the name literally).

I don't remember much of the rest of this episode except for the fact that Jenny had "undie dragon" wrong where it is supposed to be "rich pants dragon" or something like that. They trace down that name and go to a house where it was Terry's grandmother. Nik's stepgrandmother of course played dumb and said she hadn't seen the two for a long time.

Also in this episode there were funny moments. Terry tried to flirt with the hotel girl manager who looked stern and unamused but then when Terry said, "You hair feels so nice I can't leave" and she finally smiled. I suspect Terry was trying to know the security system and have a peek at the hotel boss's room so he may potentially break into his room and steal things?? Don't know.

Anyway there was another funny moment where Fate Fan and the hotel senior manager were caught smoking in the hotel trash site. Fate Fan swallowed the cigarette so they can't find evidence of him smoking but he still got punished to cease work and cease work pay for ten days. Funny when the hotel boss said, "You guys need to get a body check. If you guys do not listen to me I can always hire another senior manager". The senior manager who was the hotel boss's nephew begged him not to take his position away and said, "Don't take away my senior manager position! I don't know how to work in other positions."

Back to some more serious stuff, Sitou was helping Madam Wong with her case file where there were a lot of home break-ins lately in a particular neighbourhood. In the car ride with Madam Wong, Sitou noticed that there were a lot of campaign banners in the streets when the election was one month ago (see Sitou Sir should really be a police) and the banners were facing the opposite side of the houses, with spy cameras installed to know when a house owner has left the house. Sitou tells Madam Wong to "think outside the box next time" and Madam Wong reports the findings to Madam Chik who was reluctant to take action but did anyway.

With the police waiting for Terry to leave the house that he broke into at night time, Terry suddenly received a text from Nik telling him to take the back door since he knew the police were waiting for him. Madam Wong's co-workers complain about what is taking him so long and Madam Wong thinks about Sitou's advice to think outside the box and orders everyone to watch the back door. They caught Terry at the end but Nik comes to the rescue with a motorbike and they manage to escape.

Back at Terry's grandmother's house, Terry's grandmother urge him to stop committing crime so she can have a good night sleep.

Pause. This grandmother doesn't seem too bothered that Terry is committing crime. It's like she's fine with the two doing these illegal things as long as they don't get caught and think about stop doing illegal things for the future. Anyway Terry asked at the end, "Are you sure you are the real brother of Sitou" and Nik has a pondering expression. End.

Ruco Chan excels again in expressions. He is a very expressive actor without having to do big body movements or speak much. All he uses is his eyes and facial expressions and it is effective. I however don't like the scene when Ruco saw his real biological parents again at their house. I was expecting him to feel curious about his parent's life or the wanting to be family with them feeling or something but none of that, just normal chit-chat.

Kevin Cheng is again doing a decent job. He convinces me as someone feeling stressed and anxious to meet his twin brother and to find answers as to how the twin brother would just leave all the legal trouble to Sitou. I don't think I have ever liked Kevin Cheng's performance before like this so kudos to Kevin.

Tavia Yeung has nothing much to add to the overall story apart from having good photographic memory skills which is starting to become repetitious and overused. Just go to the police academy already and help the CIB solve issues.

Why I don't like how this series is going so far is because I was hoping to see cases exploring the idea of CCTVs and whilst there are a lot of CCTVs in the hotels, I don't see how they are the central theme of the series. Which is why I am hoping this series to fasten up the pace a little bit and get Sitou back to the CIB so he can finally be Sitou Sir again. Hurry up!

Other than that my interest in this series hasn't died yet.
