Since I don't have much to post lately, what more better than posting my thoughts of current/former TVB/ ATV/ HKTV artists and share my opinion of them in terms of their personality, acting, life in general. If you want me to make one for a certain HK artist just comment below and I will make it as the topic for my next one! I am aiming to make one post of HK Celebrity Profile of the Week and Former HK Celebrity Profile of the Week every week but that depends on my workload and time.

New TVB series: Eye in the Sky

I will be watching the long anticipated upcoming TVB series 'Eye in the Sky' featuring A star cast such as Kevin Cheng, Tavia Yeung and Ruco Chan. I am intrigued by the theme of spying and surveillance but at the same time not so thrilled to see Lin Xia Wei being in this series. Will this series become a classic like Black Heart White Soul should have been? Chances are I will immensely like this series simply because of the producer; Amy. In the past few years along she surprised with me with great series such as 'Ruse of Engagement', 'Black Heart White Soul', 'Brother's Keeper (wasn't that great but still a good try)' and 'The Other Truth'.

I will be watching the first episode and see how it goes - I might make a episode thoughts for each episode...

Excited for 2nd March 2015 when I get to finally watch this series and finally start uni!

Raising the Bar (TVB Series) 四個女仔三個BAR My Review on Grace Chan as Giselle

Theme: Legal drama

Cast: Ben Wong, Louis Cheung, Ram Chiang, Grace Chan, Elaine Yiu, Jeannie Chan, Stephanie Ho, Natalie Tong, Timothy Cheng, Elena Kong and Moon Lau.

What is this series about? This series promotes itself as a legal drama revolving the big four newbies actresses; Grace Chan, Jeannie Chan, Stephanie Ho and Moon Lau but at the end of the day it’s falls short of exploring the meaning of justice in the legal world and instead it is a try-hard love romance drama.

Grace Chan: From the start you will find Giselle charming, likeable and friendly, but eventually you will be annoyed that she is really a biased, naïve and judgemental person. At the start of the series I was intrigued by her unique character – someone outgoing and ambitious in a way of wanting to become a barrister. Her smiles convinces you that she is a graceful and nice person, her facial expressions convinces you she can be cute and this is why Grace Chan rocked in this series as Giselle. Before the series changed focus to Elaine Yiu’s Vivian adultery, she got a lot of screen-time compared to the other three supporting actresses. This all came to an end though when the series showed her human failings as illogical and someone quite dumb. I am talking about towards the end of the series when Li Dan falsely accusing Barrister Fan of raping her. Most of the evidence pointed towards that Barrister Fan was innocent and did nothing wrong, but Giselle refused to believe in this fact. It’s reasonable to have a few doubts like everyone else whether Barrister Fan was a two-faced creep but Giselle didn’t really bother to argue and seek the truth. She supported Li Dan all the way simply because she was a long time old buddy. It was confirmed when she stubbornly decided to give away Li Dan’s diary to Li Dan’s parents instead of handing it into the police because she wants to respect Li Dan’s privacy? This made no sense because if Giselle thought about it, if Li Dan’s parents really read that Li Dan wrote something that can prove Barrister Fan’s innocence can you guarantee they will do the right thing and hand it in? They didn’t end up handing it in for selfish reasons and this could have jeopardise Barrister Fan, potentially causing him to go to jail. I liked it when Quinton held a temper with Giselle for not doing the right thing.

Overall Grace Chan did a marvellous job portraying someone hardworking and overcoming challenges. She acted very natural when it came to body movements and her eye expressions speak volume. For a newbie she did very well so I daresay she will one day get TV Queen. One Day…

However, the problem with Grace in this series though was that she completely failed to convince me as someone who studied in Australia. The terminology she used were all wrong and the way she spoke in English in no way resembled Australian English. If she did any research at all, Australians do not say ‘mom’ but ‘mum’ for a start. Also, her English sounded very Canadian (because she was raised in Canada) but if she really wanted to try she could of attempted to mimic the Australian English accent where we use a lot of diminutives, abbreviations, high rising tones, assimilations and slangs. But she didn’t. I wouldn’t have minded too much but the drama excessively emphasised that she was from Australia and it started to look too ‘put-on’ and fake. The props in her room with the Australian flag, the Australian animal toys and the Australian cup, it looked way too forced in my opinion. Why can’t the writers just make her come from Canada? Obviously those that aren’t Australian may not notice this flaw from Grace Chan at all but being an actress Grace should have acted a character different from her real life and I just see Grace Chan but not Giselle in this series when she talks about the “I come from Australia” scenes.
